The range for variety grandidentatum is in Montana and Idaho to Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and Mexico. In these places, it is localized, but common where found. Therefore, neither the species Acer grandidentatum nor either of its varieties that occur in New Mexico appear to meet our criteria as rare plants.
